Creating a simple map program in java -


what best way go making simple map program? i'm trying background image have overlay when user clicks on desired area on map, they're clicking overlay (buttons on select areas). background image rather large, , can't seem head around how should go panning image , have overlay update well. in short, i'm trying make simple program similar google maps, no zoom of right now.

i've used piccolo in past similar projects. don't need zooming, when pops requirement you'll glad have capability! piccolo has panning , zooming built in.

i avoid trying create own component, , can become tangled mess code creep occurs.
