LocalSearch with Google Maps V3... but LocalSearch is deprecated? -


i have map on website want tie search box search local business listings around given point. google maps v2, simple adding localsearch component, overlayed box user type in (eg, "pizza"), , return local business listings around point.

however, found notice google has deprecated localsearch api , retiring on course of next few years. how can have functionality described above google maps v3 and... what? google places api? custom search api?

any appreciated; haven't been able find examples in wild of being done without localsearch...
