web services - Wiki software for documenting APIs -


what's advisable way of documenting , sharing apis (e.g. http web-services)?

the requirements are:

  • a wiki type system in can edit page.
  • an easy way write api spec styling/formatting applied automatically, rather having manually add styling each individual page.

i use wordpress, except it's not wiki system; it's more of blog engine. want nice, clean, structured hierarchy of pages, , ability click , edit instantly.

i tried google sites, seems unsuitable, because doesn't allow me create consistent style apis. control have on styling "themes", change & feel of whole site, , aren't specific enough.

i found hosted solution here, @ $499 p/year i'm sure can better.

any suggestions?

many projects use trac. here example of project uses http://djangobb.org/wiki

trac integrates wiki, issue tracking , source control.
